When selecting bamboo and preparing materials, it is preferred to choose bamboo with strong toughness and fine fibers such as Nanzhu and Cizhu. After cutting, remove the green and air dry to avoid cracking and deformation in the later stage. Use a cutting tool to split bamboo into evenly thick bamboo strips, which are divided into "green strips" (outer layer of bamboo, tough and smooth) and "yellow strips" (inner layer of bamboo, slightly soft texture). The fine strips need to be polished smooth to prevent burrs.
Weave the bottom of the basket first, using basic techniques such as "cross weaving" and "hexagonal weaving" to ensure a flat and firm bottom; Then weave the basket body upwards using methods such as "pick one press one" and "pick two press two", and adjust the curvature and height according to the needs; Finally, the basket edge is made and fixed. Some bamboo woven baskets will be equipped with handles, which are often made of thick bamboo strips or woven braids to enhance their load-bearing capacity.
Post processed products need to be air dried again to remove residual moisture; Daily bamboo baskets can be coated with natural tung oil to prevent water, insects, and cracking; Decorative bamboo baskets are also subjected to dyeing, carving, and other techniques to enhance their aesthetic appeal.
